Sonya L. Dunn, BSN, MSN RN was appointed as the Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive on April 6, 2025.

Sonya L. Dunn, BSN, MSN RN was appointed as the Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive on April 6, 2025. 

Prior to working for the Alaska VA Healthcare System, Ms. Dunn served as the Chief Nurse of Surgery/Surgery Specialty Clinics, Mental Health Acute Inpatient unit, MHRRTP and Outpatient Mental Health Clinics, and Care Coordination/Integrated Case Management program at the Central Iowa VA Healthcare System; a level 1c facility located in Iowa.  Prior to her Chief role, Sonya served as the Surgical Quality Improvement (VASQIP) Coordinator for VA of Central Iowa responsible for data informatics and patient safety monitoring measures. Sonya also served as an HRO instructor, a National Center for Patient Safety Team training instructor and has facilitated many process improvement projects impacting service lines, the facility, and nursing and provider processes.

Prior to her role at the VA, Sonya was the Program Director responsible for creating and implementing the Transition of Care program, the Chronic Care program for patients with advanced medical needs, and a Hospital Nursing Education program. She has extensive experience in nursing leadership, critical care, medical/pediatric care, surgery, orthopedics, mental health and outpatient clinical services.

Ms. Dunn holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science of Nursing with Education and Leadership focus, both from Allen College of Nursing.
