VA Southeast Network Announces New Chief Medical Officer: Dr. Susan Roberts Brings Clinical Leadership, Proven Experience to Network

Atlanta , GA — “We are excited to welcome Dr. Roberts as the new Chief Medical Officer of VISN 7,” said VA Southeast Network Director, Dr. David Walker.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Susan Roberts, DO, MPH, MBA, FACP, FACHE as the Chief Medical Officer of the VA Southeast Network (VISN 7) effective October 6, 2024. In this pivotal role, Dr. Roberts will oversee the delivery of healthcare services within the VA’s third-largest healthcare network, responsible for providing care to over 1.2 million Veterans across Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Her leadership will be instrumental in advancing our mission and fostering collaboration among our healthcare partners across the network.” 

Most recently, Dr. Roberts served as the Deputy Executive Director of the VHA Office of Quality Management. In this role, she played a crucial part in overseeing quality management, patient safety, and analytic support within the Veterans Health Administration. Prior to this, she was the Chief of Staff at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, where she successfully led clinical services and academic programs.

Dr. Roberts’s academic credentials include a B.S. in General Sciences from the University of Oregon, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences, an MPH from the University of Rochester, and an MBA in Healthcare Management from Oregon Health and Science University. Her distinguished career spans over 25 years, with dedicated service to the Veteran community.

Dr. Roberts has received numerous awards throughout her career, underscoring her commitment to excellence. She is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Healthcare Executives, honors that highlight her leadership and expertise in the field. Her contributions have significantly enhanced healthcare outcomes and delivery processes, ensuring continuous readiness and compliance with industry standards.
