Atlanta VA Healthcare System Celebrates National Social Work Month 2026

This powerful message highlights the dedication and advocacy social workers demonstrate in driving meaningful change throughout our communities every day.

Atlanta VAHCS is proud to have a highly competent and compassionate staff of social workers who make a significant impact in the lives of our Veterans. Social work’s core values, service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence, along with steadfast ethical principles support the VA Mission each day.

“Atlanta VA social workers are great,” shared Marine Veteran Marlon Jones, who recently had surgery at the facility. “They work behind the scenes with Veterans and families to ensure they have the resources they need to heal, as well as addressing other needs.”

Army Veteran Ramon Sims also reflected on his experiences at Atlanta VAHCS, saying, “The social workers here truly care. They listen, they advocate, and they help us navigate challenges both big and small. Their compassion makes a real difference in our lives.”

Kim Whitmoyer, Atlanta VAHCS Chief of Social Work, emphasized, “Social Workers are an integral part of the team that provides top notch, evidence-based care to Veterans across the spectrum of services that the VA provides. Social workers are present on inpatient, outpatient, community, and home settings providing clinical support to Veterans with needs across the continuum to help them live their best lives. We are present across the spectrum of VA care and support clinical areas from specialty medicine to homeless outreach.”
