Atlanta VAHCS Celebrates National Social Work Month

By Gregory Kendall, Public Affairs Specialist

The Atlanta VA Healthcare System is celebrating National Social Work Month in March.

This year’s theme , Social Work: Compassion + Action,  highlights the dedication and advocacy that drive meaningful change in communities every day.

Atlanta VAHCS is fortunate to have a very competent and compassionate staff of social workers who play an important role in our Veterans’ lives. Social work’s core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence along with ethical principles support the VA Mission every day.

“Atlanta VA social workers are great,” said Marine Veteran Robert Mullins who recently had surgery at the facility.  “They work behind the scenes with Veterans and families to ensure they have the resources they need to heal, as well as addressing other needs.”

Kim Whitmoyer, Atlanta VAHCS Chief of Social Work, said,  “ Social Workers are an integral part of the team that provides top notch, evidence-based care to Veterans across the spectrum of services that the VA provides.  Social workers are present on inpatient, outpatient, community, and home settings providing clinical support to Veterans with needs across the continuum to help them live their best lives.”

In honor of National Social Work Month, please show your support for a social worker you know.
