Atlanta VAHCS Celebrates Patient Experience Week with Focus on Compassionate Care

The Atlanta VA Health Care System is joining healthcare facilities across the nation in celebrating Patient Experience Week, April 27 – May 3.
This annual event focuses on recognizing the importance of patient-centered care and the professionals who make it possible.
Throughout the week, staff across Atlanta VAHCS will participate in activities highlighting their commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to Veterans. From frontline clinical teams to administrative staff, employees will be recognized for their efforts to ensure every Veteran feels heard, respected, and valued.
“A positive patient experience is at the heart of everything we do,” said, Angelyn McCrory, Atlanta VAHCS Chief Veterans Experience Officer. “Patient Experience Week is an opportunity to celebrate our staff’s dedication to treating Veterans not just as patients, but as individuals with unique stories, needs, and goals. Our mission is to create an environment where Veterans feel safe, supported, and empowered in their healthcare journey.”
Veterans themselves echoed the importance of that mission. Ramon Sims, an Army Veteran who receives care through the Atlanta VAHCS, shared his appreciation for the staff’s attentiveness.
“The care I receive here goes beyond medical treatment,” Sims said. “The staff takes the time to listen and really understand what I’m going through. That makes a big difference.”
Similarly, Navy Veteran Robert Jones highlighted the sense of respect and dignity he experiences during his visits.
“From the moment I walk in, I feel like I matter,” Jones said. “Everyone, from the front desk to the doctors, treats me with kindness and professionalism. That kind of experience keeps me confident in my care.”
Patient Experience Week serves as a reminder that healthcare is not only about clinical outcomes, but also about building trust and fostering meaningful connections. At the Atlanta VAHCS, those connections remain a cornerstone of their commitment to serving those who have served.
McCrory emphasizes that the principles celebrated during Patient Experience Week continue year-round, ensuring that every Veteran interaction reflects the highest standards of care and compassion.
