Atlanta VAHCS Recognizes Brain Injury Awareness Month

By Gregory Kendall, Public Affairs Specialist

March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month, dedicated to the millions affected by brain injuries, whether from accidents, falls, sports, or other causes.

It is a perfect time to gain a better understanding of brain injuries and how to avoid them by providing opportunities for learning, sharing messages about prevention, and offering support and advocacy. This year's theme is Reconnecting: Life After Brain Injury.

The Atlanta VA Health Care System Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Clinic/Polytrauma Support Clinic Team (PSCT) serves all Veterans with polytrauma and/or traumatic brain injury including those from Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn Veterans.  The TBI/PSCT is part of the national Polytrauma System of Care which delivers follow up services in consultation with regional and network specialists to manage long term effects of TBI/Polytrauma through direct care and consultation.

To learn more about resources for people living with traumatic brain injuries, Veterans and staff are encouraged to stop by the information table at the Atlanta VA Clinic, located at 250 N Arcadia Ave. Decatur, GA 30030, on Tuesday March 25 from 8am to noon.

We would like to thank the TBI Clinic for the work they do every day with our Veterans and for being a core part of what we do at the Atlanta VAHCS.
