Atlanta VAHCS Women Veterans Program Engages Veterans at Community Outreach Event

The Atlanta VA Health Care System Women Veterans Program staff participated in a community event held June 11–12 in Rome, Georgia, where they connected with Veterans and community members to increase awareness of services and resources available to women Veterans.
Throughout the two-day event, Women Veterans Program staff hosted an informational table and met with numerous Veterans to discuss VA health care benefits, eligibility, and specialized programs designed to address the unique needs of women who have served in the military. Staff also educated attendees about women’s health issues and highlighted the comprehensive services available through VA, including preventive care, maternity care coordination, mental health services, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and gender-specific health care programs.
The community outreach provided an opportunity for Atlanta VAHCS staff to engage directly with Veterans, answer questions, and ensure women Veterans understand the benefits and resources available to support their health and well-being.
“Many women Veterans are unaware of the full range of services available to them through VA,” said Kathleen O’Loughlin, Atlanta VAHCS Women Veterans Program Manager. “Events like this allow us to meet Veterans where they are, provide valuable information, and help connect them with the care and support they have earned through their service. Our goal is to ensure every woman Veteran knows she has access to comprehensive, gender-specific care tailored to her needs.”
In addition to discussing health care services, staff provided information on enrollment, outreach programs, and resources designed to help women Veterans navigate their VA benefits and access quality care close to home.
Rosalyn Williams, an Air Force Veteran and Atlanta VAHCS employee who participated in the event, said the fair offered a meaningful opportunity to engage with Veterans and strengthen community connections.
“The conversations we had with Veterans were incredibly valuable,” Williams said. “Many women Veterans still don't realize that VA offers specialized programs and services specifically designed for them. Being able to share that information and answer questions face-to-face helps build trust and encourages Veterans to take advantage of the resources available to support their health and wellness.”
The event brought together a variety of organizations dedicated to serving Veterans and their families, creating a one-stop resource for information, services, and support. The event also provided opportunities for collaboration among community partners working to improve outcomes for Veterans throughout northwest Georgia.
