Two Atlanta Veterans will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force on September 18, 2025, by displaying the Air Force flag at their homes, reflecting on their service, sacrifice, and the innovation that has defined their branch since its founding in 1947.
Retired Master Sergeant Denis James, who served more than 20 years as an aircraft mechanic, said the anniversary is both personal and historic. “When I look back, I see how far the Air Force has come in technology and capability,” James said. “But what I’m most proud of are the men and women who gave their all to keep our nation safe.”
Fellow Air Force Veteran Lt. Colonel Danny Jones, who flew C-130 transport missions during Operations Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom, said the Air Force shaped his life in lasting ways. “Serving gave me discipline, resilience, and a sense of purpose I carry to this day, “Jones said. “The 75th anniversary isn’t just about planes and missions—it’s about people and legacy.”
From its beginnings after World War II to becoming a global leader in air and space power, the U.S. Air Force has remained vital to America’s defense. For James and Jones, celebrating the milestone is a way to honor fellow airmen past and present.
“The Air Force not only gave us wings, but a caring community as well,” Jones added. “I think that’s something worth celebrating every year, but especially on our 75th anniversary.”
