Celebrating National Pharmacist Day

By Gregory Kendall, Public Affairs Specialist

January 12, 2026, marks National Pharmacist Day, a time to honor and recognize the vital role pharmacists play in delivering high-quality care to our Veterans.

“Pharmacy plays an instrumental role in providing high-quality health care within the VA,” said Dr. Jeffrey Denner, Chief of Pharmacy at the Atlanta VA Health Care System. “I am extremely proud of our pharmacy team as they work every day to ensure the safe and effective use of medications.”

The Atlanta VA Health Care System pharmacy team includes 50 clinical pharmacists and 55 clinical pharmacy practitioners who provide comprehensive pharmacy services to Veterans 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Services include a 24/7 inpatient pharmacy, an outpatient pharmacy open seven days a week, and clinical pharmacy support embedded across Primary Care, Acute Care, Medical Specialty Clinics, Geriatrics and Extended Care, Mental Health, Critical Care, and the Emergency Department.

Army Veteran Ramon Sims praised the Atlanta VAHCS pharmacy staff for their compassion and dedication to patient care. “The Atlanta VA pharmacists always take the time to make sure I feel comfortable with my medications and provide additional drug information, when necessary,” Sims said. “I can sincerely say that all of my visits to the Atlanta VA pharmacy have been excellent from start to finish,” he added.
