Augusta , GA — VA Augusta Health Care System’s Research team will celebrate Research Week by holding two days of discussions, presentations, competitions, and a research facility tour May 13-14 at the VA Augusta Downtown campus (950 15th Street).
“VA Augusta is part of the nationally renowned VA research community, which is nearly a century old and has three Nobel prize winners among its ranks,” said Dr. Amado Alejandro Báez, M.D., PhD, VA Augusta’s Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development. “VA Augusta stands at the center of that tradition with a focus on the real-world, beneficial impact of our research on the lives of local Veterans. Research Week is a chance to highlight the cutting-edge facilities and programs that drive that focus.”
On Tuesday, May 14, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., VA Augusta will offer guided tours of its research facilities to members of the media and other attendees (please email William.Martin6@va.gov to coordinate). In addition, Research Week participants will discuss renal, vision, lung injury, brain and lung, and PTSD research projects. And as part of a competition, a committee of experienced researchers will judge presentations and posters by postdoctoral researchers and physicians.
VA Augusta Health Care System employs about 2,700 employees who serve more than 50,000 unique Veteran patients each year in Georgia and South Carolina. In addition to the Medical Center’s two campuses in Augusta, it operates three VA outpatient clinics in Aiken, South Carolina, and Athens and Statesboro, Georgia.
