VA Augusta invites media to interview trauma-recovery professionals as part of PTSD Awareness Month

Augusta , GA — June is National Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month.

“Trauma impacts a lot of Veterans, and it’s not limited to those with combat experiences,” said Dr. J. Richard Monroe, program manager for the VA Augusta Trauma Recovery Clinic. “By offering personalized, evidence-based therapies, we partner with the Veteran to navigate a path to healing. For many who have stuffed down or ignored their trauma-related symptoms, it can be a life-changing process and a new lease on life.”

Veterans seeking PTSD treatment should ask for a referral from their VA Primary Care or Mental Health provider. Veterans can also self-refer for same-day care by visiting the VA Augusta Mental Health Walk-In Clinic (Unit 1F) at 1 Freedom Way in Augusta. In addition, VA offers several online resources to help Veterans and their families in their understanding of PTSD at www.ptsd.va.gov/apps/aboutface.
