Dr. Jessica Flanary joined VA Augusta as its Associate Director of Patient Care Services (Nurse Executive) in October 2025.
She began her VA career at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in 2005 as a student nurse tech before advancing to a critical care registered nurse and nurse manager. In 2018, she accepted the position of the Nursing Recruitment and Retention Specialist while maintaining her certifications in critical care and nursing professional development. In partnership with human resources, she ensured Kansas City VA had the best time-to-hire metrics in that VISN and decreased the nursing vacancy rate by 4%. In 2022, she became Deputy Chief Nurse Executive at the VA Portland Healthcare System. There she worked to improve advance nursing practice and high reliability principles and to reestablish the professional identity of nursing in light of the nationwide workforce shortages. Dr. Flanary graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, with her BSN, the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, with her MSN in Organizational Leadership, and Augusta University, in Augusta, Georgia, with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice-Nurse Executive.
