The VA Augusta Health Care System Acute Care Nursing team recently celebrated a remarkable milestone that underscores its commitment to patient care and leadership.

“Glennis Allen, an Assistant Nurse Manager in Acute Care, was selected for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award, meaning that 50 percent of VA Augusta’s Acute Care Nursing leadership team have been recognized as DAISY Leader Award recipients,” said Nicole Aenchbacher, Chief of Acute Care Nursing at VA Augusta. “I think it’s clear that our team is fostering a culture of exceptional care for Veterans.”

Daniela Chancey is another prominent leader on the Acute Care Nursing team. With over 17 years of service at the VA Augusta, she has held a range of staff and leadership roles, beginning as a nursing assistant and progressing to her current role as Nurse Manager on 4A.

“Daniela is not only a DAISY Nurse Leader but also an HRO (High Reliability Organization) Champion,” said Aenchbacher. “Her journey through various roles within our system is a testament to her continuous professional development.”

Another exemplary leader and DAISY Award recipient is Amy Jones, Nurse Manager on 6A. Known for her hands-on leadership style, she regularly participates in direct patient care. Her efforts in recognizing and developing her team, preventing patient falls, and striving to make 6A the best acute care unit have not gone unnoticed.

“Amy’s proactive approach to improving unit operations and patient safety set her apart,” said Aenchbacher.

Cory Gober, senior nurse manager for the Acute Care Service Line, has made significant impacts over her four-plus years with VA. Her leadership has driven the CCU to achieve zero CLABSI and CAUTI rates and high marks on tele-stroke protocols. Gober, who recently earned her MSN, is a proactive participant in shared governance and spearheads initiatives like the adoption of the AMT bridle to enhance Veteran safety.

“These leaders exemplify the core values we strive to embody within our Acute Care Nursing team,” said Aenchbacher. “Their recognitions and accomplishments are more than just plaques or bullets on their resumes; it speaks to a collective commitment to setting new benchmarks in patient care.”
