On April 10, 2022, Jerry W. Hamlin, D.M.D. was selected as the new Chief of the Dental Services at the Birmingham VA Health Care System.

Prior to joining our team, he was the Chief of Dental Services at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Dr. Hamlin is a U.S. Navy veteran with 28 years of service to our country. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. A native of Florida, he completed a General Practice Residency program at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in 1991 in Portsmouth, Virginia; he also completed residency training in Operative and Preventive Dentistry in 1998 at Indiana University.

During his 28-year tenure with the Navy, he deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of “Operation Iraqi Freedom” and “Operation Enduring Freedom”. Additionally, he served as Command Consultant for Operative and Preventive Dentistry at Camp Pendleton, California, Naval Hospital Oak Harbor, and Naval Hospital Pensacola.
