Ms. Megan Mihaly has been detailed as the Interim Assistant Director of the Birmingham VA Health Care System (BVAHCS).

Megan Mihaly, MFCS, RDN, began her service within the federal government in 2008 as a Clinical Dietitian for the Loch Raven VA Medical Center.  Megan continued her federal service in multiple clinical areas including oncology, geriatrics, wound care, and outpatient medical nutrition therapy for seven sites in the VA Maryland Healthcare System (VAMHCS).  

In 2017 Megan transitioned into the role of Nutrition Informatics and worked closely with the VAMHCS clinical and food service teams to optimize menu ordering systems and enhance the dining experience for Veterans.  In 2021, Megan had the opportunity to serve as the Assistant Chief of Nutrition and Food Service for the VAMHCS where she oversaw the budget, QI/PI, streamlined food service operations and lead training programs for 130+ employees. In 2022, Megan took on the role of Chief of Nutrition and Food Services for the BVAHCS.  

She led the NFS team through the transition to cook-serve and is excited about the upcoming kitchen renovation.  Her favorite part of working at the VA is meeting with Veterans and listening to their unique experiences.  

Megan earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics in 2006 earned her Master’s in Family and Consumer Sciences, with a minor in Exercise Physiology in 2009 from Bowling Green State University (BGSU).  She is a certified ServSafe Manager, trainer, and proctor.  

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, working out, and spending time with family, pets and friends.
