American Legion Post 911 Donates $10,000 to Support Birmingham VA Veterans

The Birmingham VA Health Care System recently received a generous $10,000 donation from the Department of Alabama American Legion and Operation Comfort Warrior. This gift that will have a lasting impact on homeless Veterans and other Veterans in need.
The check was presented by Willie Rogers, U.S. Air Force Veteran and commander of the Department of Alabama American Legion, on behalf of the 20,000+ Legionnaires across the state who are dedicated to serving those who served.
“Operation Comfort Warrior is here to help Veterans,” said Rogers. “We have made [donations for Veterans] all across the state of Alabama, as part of Operation Comfort Warrior. This is for Veterans and what we can do for them to help them get back into the mainstream of life.”
Monetary donations like this are vital to help fill critical gaps in resources that aren’t covered by federal funding, such as clothing, food, and transportation. While VA staff work tirelessly to connect Veterans with available community resources, direct funding allows us to quickly provide essentials that can make all the difference. Sometimes, a bus pass is the key to stability. Other times, it’s simply the dignity of having proper-fitting clothing when starting fresh.
This donation directly supports our ongoing programs and initiatives aimed at providing essential resources and services that support our Veteran population. The Birmingham VA is incredibly grateful to the American Legion for their continued commitment to Veterans.
“I want to thank the American Legion,” said Dr. Ladi Kukoyi, CEO/Executive Director of the Birmingham VA Health Care System. “You all are great partners and without you we could not accomplish much of what we do. We are very thankful for your undying support. We appreciate this donation and will use this for the betterment of Veterans.”
“It’s an honor and privilege to serve our Veterans,” said Tiffany Taylor, Social Worker, Health Care for Homeless Veterans. “We are thankful to be able to help the homeless Veteran population receive the assistance and support they need and benefits they have earned. We are grateful to the American Legion for their generous donation.”
