A Decade of Dedication, Access, and Excellence in Veteran Care.
The Birmingham VA Health Care System is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Birmingham VA Clinic and Parking Deck, recognizing ten years of service and dedication to Veterans throughout Central Alabama.
The project started with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 7, 2014, and finished with a ribbon-cutting on January 19, 2016. Since then, the Clinic has played a key role in improving access and the overall experience for Veterans.
Built With a Vision for the Future
Located at 2415 7th Avenue South, the Birmingham VA Clinic was designed to meet the needs of local Veterans. The facility covers about 50,000 square feet and provides a modern, welcoming space for Veterans and staff. It also offers a full range of primary care services.
The Annex was built to address both current and future needs, focusing on accessibility, quality, and sustainability.
From Groundbreaking to Grand Opening
The groundbreaking began a new chapter for the Birmingham VA Health Care System, showing careful planning and a strong commitment to quality and Veteran-focused design.
At the grand opening Veterans, staff, community members, and local leaders gathered to celebrate an important milestone. This event helped the system expand its ability to provide timely, high-quality care.
A Decade of Impact
In the last 10 years, the Birmingham VA Clinic has become an important center for Veteran care. Today, nearly 250 employees serve more than 24,000 Veterans each year, handling over 108,000 outpatient visits.
The Annex provides many services, such as routine and preventive care, diagnostic services, and specialized primary care treatments. With advanced medical technology, care teams can offer coordinated and personalized care.
Along with medical care, the Annex also provides important support services like mental health counseling, nutrition services, social work support, and rehabilitation programs. This shows a holistic approach to both physical and mental well-being.
Supporting Access Through Infrastructure
One key feature of the complex is the multi-level parking deck, which has more than 2,300 parking spaces. This important addition makes it easier for Veterans and their families to access care and improves the overall patient experience.
Looking Ahead
As the Birmingham VA Health Care System celebrates this 10-year milestone, the focus is still on the future. The success of the Clinic over the past decade shows the dedication of its staff, the support from the community, and the resilience of the Veterans it serves.
The Birmingham VA Clinic and Parking Deck show VA’s ongoing mission to provide compassionate, high-quality care to those who have served our country. With a strong foundation, the next decade is set to bring more innovation, growth, and excellence in Veteran care.
