The Christmas season officially arrived at the Birmingham Vet Center as more than 150 visitors—Veterans, Service Members, military families, and community partners—came together for an evening filled with magic, joy, and the unmistakable warmth of the holiday spirit.

More than 60 children shared their Christmas wishes with Jolly Old Saint Nick, who arrived right on schedule from the North Pole on December 4. Supported by the Birmingham VA Health Care System, the event invited children of all Veterans and Service Members to celebrate the season with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Santa’s cheerful team of elves. Even the City of Hoover Mayor, Nicholas Derzis, made the trek to surprise his namesake—though some might say it's the other way around!

Families enjoyed festive photo opportunities with Santa—an honorary member of all branches of our Armed Forces—who proudly honored each family’s service branch of choice. Whether Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard… Santa made sure every Veteran and Service Member knew he had their six.

The Vet Center was alive with holiday excitement as children created their own Christmas tree ornaments, decorated cookies, and sipped warm hot chocolate. The sweet smell of a campfire and s’mores drifted through the air, adding to the cozy, joyful atmosphere. Christmas music, laughter, and good company made the night unforgettable.

It was an evening to celebrate, smile, and kick off the season the right way—surrounded by the strength, unity, and spirit of our Veteran community.
