Keeping the Holiday Cheer Alive After Christmas

By Birmingham VA Health Care System, Public Affairs Office
At the Birmingham VA Medical Center, the holiday spirit didn't stop after Christmas.
Thanks to a special visit from student-athletes from Appalachian State University (Mountaineers) and Georgia Southern University (Eagles), the cheer carried on.
On December 26, the day before their showdown in the 19th Birmingham Bowl, players from both teams put aside their rivalry and spent time with Veterans in the hospital. They swapped their helmets for heartfelt conversations and smiles, spreading comfort and joy to those spending the holidays away from home.
This visit was a beautiful reminder that the season of giving doesn't have to end on December 25. The halls were filled with moments of connection, compassion, and gratitude, highlighting the true meaning of the holidays and honoring our nation's Veterans’ incredible service and sacrifice.
For the Veterans, this wasn't just about football—it was a reminder that they are seen, valued, and remembered.
The Birmingham Bowl is scheduled for Monday, December 29 at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama.
