Ribbon Cutting Marks Opening of Expanded Shoals VA Clinic

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, the Birmingham VA Health Care System proudly celebrated the grand opening of the new Shoals VA Clinic with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 410 Cox Blvd, Sheffield, Alabama.
This modern facility, more than double the size of its predecessor, is designed to provide expanded and enhanced care for Veterans in the Shoals region, including Florence, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia.
“Access is something we take seriously in VA,” said Dr. Ladi Kukoyi, Executive Director/CEO of the Birmingham VA Health Care System. “This clinic will make a large impact to Veterans in the norther part of Alabama in terms of access, quality of care and a state-of-the-art facility.”
The ceremony was well-attended, with nearly 100 guests present to commemorate the occasion. Distinguished attendees included staffers from the offices of Senator Tommy Tuberville, Senator Katie Britt, Congressman Robert Aderholt, and Congressman Dale Strong, as well as the mayors of Florence and Sheffield. Members of local Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs), community leaders, and VA staff also joined to celebrate this milestone.
“To the Veterans here today and who live in this region, this clinic is for you,” said Dr. David Walker, Network Director, VA Southeast Network. “It’s about ensuring your health and well-being remain at the forefront of everything we do. Thank you for allowing us to serve you.”
The Shoals VA Clinic represents a significant step forward in the Birmingham VA Health Care System’s mission to deliver accessible, high-quality care to Veterans. The state-of-the-art facility spans over 16,000 square feet, a significant upgrade from the previous 6,300-square-foot clinic, which served the community since 1999. Key features of the new clinic include:
• 18 patient rooms dedicated to primary care, women’s health, and mental health.
• 3 Telehealth rooms supporting virtual care.
• Expanded services in primary care, mental health, lab services, and Telehealth.
The Shoals VA Clinic is a testament to the VA’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of Veterans, providing both traditional and innovative care options, and supporting the growing population of Veterans in northern Alabama. The clinic’s expanded capacity and enhanced services are another reason why more Veterans should enroll and receive the care and benefits they have earned.
