On February 9, 2025, Ana Almodovar-Garcia was detailed as Acting Assistant Director for the VACHS.
Mrs. Almodovar began her career at VA Caribbean Health Care System in 2003 as an Registered Occupational Therapist. She made significant contributions to the development and improvement of multiple Specialized Clinical Programs including the Interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Management Program, Polytrauma System of Care, Hand Rehabilitation Program, and the Living Skills Program, all within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service. As Health System Specialist, she oversaw the Performance Improvement and Outcomes Management Program, leading the Service thru CARF Accreditation processes. She later moved to a position as Management and Program Analyst to the Chief of Staff, providing full administrative support to the executive office. Her leadership was essential in the development of the Ambulatory Care Operations Section/GPM, implementing a robust Clinic Practice Management Program across the healthcare system. She holds the position of VACHS Facility Group Practice Manager since 2023.
Mrs. Almodovar has consistently served as a leader to our organization in the areas of performance improvement and access to care. Her vast experience and leadership have led her to make significant contributions to our facility in the implementation of ongoing processes and program administration and development, targeting inefficiencies in access to care through optimization of multiple resources. During the COVID-19 pandemic she was instrumental in the implementation of the Drive Through Screening and Checkpoints at VACHS. She is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
In addition to her degree in Occupational Therapy, Mrs. Almodovar possess a master’s degree in Kinesiology with emphasis in Biomechanics and Motor Behavior, from the University of Texas, Austin. Prior to her trajectory within the VHA, she served in multiple clinical and leadership roles in private rehabilitation clinical settings in Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico, representing over 28 years of experience in the healthcare field.
