Jari R. Moreno Sánchez was appointed Acting Associate Director on July 1, 2025.
Mr. Moreno dedicated Clinical Social Worker and Forensic Expert with a robust academic background and extensive professional experience. He began his educational journey in Physics and Technology before transitioning to Social Work at the University of Puerto Rico, where he completed his bachelor's degree at the Río Piedras campus. He further pursued his master's degree at the Interamerican University with a focus on Social Work Administration, alongside a pivotal research study on integrating new technological resources in Social Work.
With a Postgraduate Clinical Certification from the Interamerican University and a Professional Certification as a Forensic Expert, Mr. Moreno has demonstrated his commitment to the field. His professional journey includes serving on the Ethics Commission for Social Workers of Puerto Rico and being an active board member of the Professional Association of Social Workers of Puerto Rico. He has also made significant contributions to academia, teaching courses at various universities, providing Continuing Education for fellow social workers, and sharing his expertise at numerous forums, including Forensic Expertise Symposia and Mental Health Summits.
Throughout his career, Mr. Moreno has held various leadership positions, including Manager of Family and Community Partnerships at the Head Start Project of Union Church of San Juan and Coordinator of the Continuing Education Institute of the Professional Association "El Colegio" of Social Workers of Puerto Rico. His administrative experience is complemented by his role at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA), where he supervised initiatives for children and young people with severe emotional disturbances and worked as a treatment supervisor at the Detoxification and Methadone Treatment Center in San Juan.
For over eleven years, Mr Moreno has been the Social Work Service Chief for the Caribbean Healthcare System of the Veterans Administration, overseeing clinics throughout Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. His leadership capabilities have been recognized through temporary appointments, including Acting Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health Services and the one he currently holds.
In addition to his extensive administrative and clinical experiences, Mr. Moreno has worked directly with at-risk youth in maximum-security settings and has provided clinical services through his "Brief Therapy Clinical Center." He employs innovative therapeutic techniques, including cognitive-behavioral approaches and therapeutic hypnosis, and is currently leading an evidence-based therapy group for Veterans navigating violence in their personal relationships.
