11/12/2019 – New Members Appointed to VA Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced the appointment of three new members to the Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans. The committee was chartered on November 2, 1994, and advises the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on the needs of the nation’s 4.7 million minority Veterans with respect to compensation, health care, rehabilitation, outreach and other benefits and programs administered by the VA. The committee assesses the needs of Veterans who are minority group members and recommends program improvements designed to meet their needs. The committee members are appointed to two or three-year terms. Minority Veterans comprise nearly 24 percent of the total Veteran population in the United States and its territories. Minority women Veterans represent approximately 33 percent of the women Veteran population.

11/07/2019 – Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans, Notice of Meeting – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) gives notice under the Federal Advisory Committee Act that the Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans will meet on December 3-5, 2019, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, 810 Vermont Avenue NW, Sonny Montgomery Conference Room 230, Washington, DC.

About the Committee

Appointed by the Secretary, The Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans (ACMV) was established under Public Law 103-446 § 510, November 2, 1994.  The Committee consists of veterans who represent respective minority groups and are recognized authorities in fields pertinent to the needs of the minority group they embody.  The Committee responsibilities include:

  • Advising the Secretary and Congress on VA’s administration of benefits and provisions of healthcare, benefits, and services to minority Veterans.
  • Providing an Annual report to congress outlining recommendations, concerns and observations on VA’s delivery of services to minority Veterans.
  • Meeting with VA officials, Veteran Service Organizations, and other stakeholders to assess the Department’s efforts in providing benefits and outreach to Minority Veterans.
  • Making periodic site visits and holding town hall meetings with Veterans to address their concerns.

*We have completed the review process for selection of applicants to serve in Fiscal Year 2019.  Applications received between June 2018 and June 2019 will be held for review/selection for Fiscal Year 2020 appointments.
