Dr. Courtney J. Berry Cannon, DNP, MBA, MSN, RN, was appointed Acting Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services on April 17, 2026.
She brings 15 years of progressive nursing and leadership experience to the role, with a strong record of service within the Veterans Health Administration.
Since joining CAVHCS in 2012 as a staff nurse in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic, Dr. Berry Cannon has served in several key leadership positions, including Associate Chief Nurse for Mental Health; Nurse Manager for Geriatrics, Extended Care, and Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinics; and staff nurse within the Community Living Center Dementia Unit. Prior to her VA career, she practiced in acute rehabilitation and long-term care at Arbor Springs in Opelika, Alabama.
Dr. Berry Cannon is a graduate of the VA Health Care Leadership Development Program (HCLDP), Class of 2025. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (2016), a Master of Science in Nursing (2015), a Master of Business Administration (2020), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2011).
Guided by a personal commitment to service, excellence, and continuous improvement, Dr. Berry Cannon is dedicated to supporting high‑quality care for Veterans and fostering a collaborative, mission‑driven environment for staff. She is honored to serve in this acting leadership capacity.
