CAVHCS earns several accreditations from Joint Commission

Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System or CAVHCS received four accreditation letters from The Joint Commission. Achieving accreditations demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement in patient care.

The Joint Commission is an independent accrediting body for hospitals that aims at reducing healthcare disparities, calling the effort a quality and safety priority.

CAVHCS has succeeded in the following accreditations:

  • Comprehensive Accreditation for Behavioral Health Care and Human Services (valid for 36 months)
  • Comprehensive Accreditation for Home Care (valid for 36 months)
  • Comprehensive Accreditation for Hospitals (valid for 36 months)
  • Comprehensive Accreditation for Laboratory and Point-of-Care Testing (valid for 24 months)

During an unannounced visit in April, CAVHCS Director/CEO Amir Farooqi stated that The Joint Commission was very complimentary of our team and enthusiastic about witnessing the passion CAVHCS has for our Veterans' care.

"Our Quality Management and Safety Management teams escorted seven TJC surveyors throughout the campuses and CBOCs so they may review the hard work," said Farooqi.

CAVHCS continues to focus on becoming a High Reliability Organization providing well-coordinated safe care. Creating and maintaining a safety culture is critical in ensuring our Veterans receive the perfect patient experience.
