🌟 Staff Highlight: Troy Ash – A True Advocate for Veterans 🌟

By Megan Kon, Public Affairs Specialist, VA Southeast Network
At Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS), we proudly recognize Troy Ash for his extraordinary dedication and compassion in serving our Veterans.
💬 From a Veteran at the Marketing area Health Systems Optimization assessment Listening Session:
A Veteran shared a powerful story of being in multiple crisis situations, including one where he described himself as being at a “level 110.” In that moment, Troy Ash stepped in with calm, patience, and respect—de-escalating the situation and ensuring the Veteran’s needs were met. He also praised Cheryl Washington and Janice Butler for their support during other difficult times, saying:
“Troy talked me down, was patient, respectful, and helped me with my needs. I always feel respected and cared for.”
✉️ From Dr. Ritchelle Broadnax:
Dr. Ritchelle Broadnax shared a deeply personal account of how Troy Ash helped her years ago when she was struggling with untreated sleep apnea. After months of unanswered calls and delays, Troy took immediate action—making calls and taking notes. The very next day, Dr. Broadnax received her CPAP machine.
Now a VA provider herself, Dr. Ritchelle Broadnax refers Veterans to Troy regularly:
“One Veteran even referred to him as an Angel,” said Broadnax. “It makes my heart smile to feel like I have an ally on Perry Hill Rd that is just as passionate about serving our Veterans as I am. We are eternally grateful for him and will never forget his kindness and devotion. God Bless Troy Ash!”
🗣️ From Kimberly Bowen, Patient Advocate Supervisor:
“Troy always goes above and beyond for his Veterans and fellow employees. He has a positive, calming nature that our Veterans gravitate toward. His positivity and willingness to help in ANY way makes such a difference. This recognition is well deserved, and I am so proud of him.”
🙌 Thank You, Troy
