Dr. Coppola is a provider for the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System.

Dr. Coppola is a board-certified internal medicine physician with the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System in Charleston South Carolina. Having joined the VA as a Hospitalist in 2024, Dr. Coppola provides care to Veterans requiring inpatient hospitalization for a range of medical conditions.

 

In this role, he is responsible for evaluating and admitting patients, diagnosing, and managing acute and chronic medical conditions, coordinating care with specialists and multidisciplinary teams, and overseeing daily inpatient treatment plans. He prioritizes clear communication with patients and families to ensure safe transitions in care and promotes patient safety and quality improvement through various hospital committees. 

 

Before joining the VA, he completed Internal Medicine Residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital in Richmond Virgina which is also affiliated with the Richmond VA Medical Center. After completing residency, Dr. Coppola served as a Chief Resident completing a fellowship in Quality and Patient Safety at the Richmond VA through the VA National Center for Patient Safety and Health.  He earned his medical degree at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and completed his Bachelor of Science degree at The University of Pittsburgh.
