William E Cramer

Initially serving as a carrier-based F/A-18 strike fighter pilot, He flew combat operations in Iraq and Serbia before transitioning to medicine. His medical degree is from the Uniformed Services University and his residency was completed at Bethesda Naval Hospital and at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he participated in the perioperative care of wounded warriors, often within two days of injury in an active combat theater. His training included operational Naval Flight Surgery and he served as a flight surgeon for NASA during space shuttle launches and recoveries.
After the military, Cramer spent 10 years in private practice as a general anesthesiologist before joining the Veteran’s Administration as an attending anesthesiologist. He is actively engaged in the clinical education of resident anesthesiologists and is an associate professor of anesthesiology at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr Cramer serves as Director of the Friends of the Fisher House Charleston, a charitable organization which supports veterans and their caregivers who are receiving medical care in the Charleston, SC area by providing very comfortable and free room and board at the Fisher House.
He lives with his wife in Charleston SC and enjoys boating along the east coast.
