Ambassadors of Excellence: Nida Millare

By Joey Swafford, Public Affairs
At the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System, excellence in care is often found in the quiet consistency of those who show up every day ready to serve.
For more than 35 years, Nida Millare, an X-ray technologist, has provided steady, compassionate care to Veterans, often working behind the scenes during overnight hours.
Nida has spent most of her career on the night shift, where she operates as a one-person department. From receiving patients and completing registration to performing imaging and ensuring Veterans return to their care teams, she manages every step of the process on her own. Despite the demands, she approaches each interaction with professionalism and compassion.
“For my 35 years working as an X-ray tech, from day one up to this point, I feel like it is our role to do our job with care and compassion,” Nida said. “It is not an obligation. It is just what we do.”
Veterans consistently recognize her dedication. “Nida was very professional and courteous,” one shared. Another said, “Nida was awesome. Got me in and out in no time.” Others highlighted both her skill and demeanor, describing her as “an excellent X-ray tech” with “amazing customer service and attitude.”
While her technical role focuses on imaging, Nida understands that each interaction is part of a larger healing process. She takes time to help Veterans understand what to expect and provides reassurance during what can often be an uncertain moment. “Our goal is to make every Veteran feel like we are part of their healing process,” she said.
Working nights brings unique challenges, but it also reinforces her sense of purpose. Each patient and each case is different, which is what keeps the work meaningful. “Every day is a different case,” she said. “It is very fulfilling. I just love what I do.”
For her dedication, professionalism and commitment to providing compassionate care to Veterans at all hours, Nida Millare is recognized as the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System’s March Ambassador of Excellence.
