Ambassadors of Excellence: Raynol Washington

By Joey Swafford, Public Affairs
Veterans across the Lowcountry know they can count on Raynol Washington, whether it’s rescheduling an appointment or solving a complex care coordination issue, she’s always ready to help with a smile.
As an Advanced Medical Support Assistant in the Health Care Administration Department, Raynol has built a reputation for being professional, kind, and dedicated to making sure every Veteran receives the care and support they need.
“Raynol went beyond the call of duty to see to it that I got the medical appointments I needed,” one Veteran shared. Another added, “She was so helpful in rescheduling my appointment. One of the most pleasant schedulers I’ve ever met.” Others have described her as knowledgeable, polite, and always willing to go out of her way to help.
Raynol’s path to the VA began in 2014 after years of experience across every level of health care, from assisted living to hospice and palliative care. That background shaped her perspective and gave her a deep appreciation for the importance of timely, reliable access to care. “When I wake up every day, my goal is to help as many people as I can,” she said. “I know how important it is to get that health care and to connect with the doctor so the Veteran can have a better quality of life.”
Her work spans every aspect of patient support, from helping Veterans locate their appointments to resolving scheduling challenges, coordinating transportation, or assisting with medications. “It can go from something small to a very high need,” she explained. “Whatever the request is, I just try my best to make sure I assist.”
For Raynol, this recognition is about more than the role itself. “It truly is a blessing, and I feel so honored and so touched,” she said. “It makes my heart full to see how people feel about the assistance I’ve provided to them. I give so much, and it feels good to be giving back something just to say, ‘I appreciate you.’”
She also emphasizes the importance of teamwork in meeting the needs of Veterans across the Lowcountry. “My area is very high-paced, and we service so many people from so many different areas,” she said. “We all have to coordinate and work together because those patients need all the services we provide. I appreciate the team that I work with because we know the demand is high, and we cover a lot of important clinics.”
Raynol’s commitment is rooted in gratitude for the Veterans themselves. “I just want to say thank you for your service. I appreciate the sacrifices you’ve made to make this country a place for us all to live in together,” she said. “I’m always here. We’re always here at the VA hospital to make sure you get every service that’s due to you.”
For her dedication, compassion, and steady presence, the Ralph H. Johnson VAHCS proudly recognizes Raynol Washington as August’s Ambassador of Excellence.
