Alicia Smith-Freshwater is the current Interim Associate Director for the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, Dublin, Georgia.
Alicia Smith-Freshwater is the current Interim Associate Director for the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, Dublin, Georgia. Alicia Smith-Freshwater is the Healthcare Technology Manager for the VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care System (VISN 6), where she plays a pivotal role in managing healthcare technology initiatives. As of November 2, 2025, she also serves as the Interim Associate Director at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia.
Alicia began her distinguished VA career in 2009 as a Biomedical Engineer at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System in Richmond, Virginia. Over the years, she has held various leadership positions, including Chief Biomedical Engineer at Hampton VA Medical Center, Health Systems Specialist for VISN 6, Deputy Network Director from 2019 to 2020, Interim Associate Director at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Michigan in 2022, and Program Manager for Healthcare Technology Management Initiatives across the VHA.
She holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Alicia is a certified Clinical Engineer and Healthcare Technology Manager, and a graduate of the VHA Healthcare Leadership Development Program (HCLDP) 2019 cohort. Before her VA service, she worked as an Operations Manager for Celanese Americas.
As the daughter of an Air Force Veteran, Alicia has experienced life in multiple states across the Southeast and abroad, though she considers North Carolina her home. She is passionately dedicated to serving America’s Veterans and ensuring they receive excellent care—every Veteran, every time.
