VGCC Recognizes Durham VA Radiology Service

No matter what your chosen profession is, everyone must start somewhere, and a good mentor can make those first few steps a lot less daunting.
Recently, the Durham VA Radiology Service received the “Clinical Affiliate Award of Excellence” 2025-2026 award from Henderson, North Carolina’s Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) for its work in training the next generation of radiologic technicians.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve won this award,” says Cody Greene, a Durham VA Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist and a designated VGCC Designated Clinical Instructor. “Vance-Granville has been a clinical partner for over 30 years. That’s 30 years of training and preparing radiologic technicians as they complete their education and enter the workforce.
The VGCC accolades don’t stop there. Greene, who has been with Durham VA’s Radiology Service for nearly four years, just won his third Clinical Technologist Instructor of the Year award.
“Every two months, four new Technologist students rotate in for their clinical training,” Greene says. “My job as a Clinical Instructor is to help mentor these students as they go through their clinical training phase.”
Durham, North Carolina, is home to many colleges and universities, with which the Durham VA has longstanding clinical partnerships. Many of these institutions offer health care-oriented degrees and certifications in everything from doctoral programs to technical certifications, and the Durham VA plays a crucial role in helping train future medical providers.
“I’m a graduate of Vance-Granville, and I was once where these students are now,” Greene says. “I always like to remember my motto always be compassionate with your students. Compassion always pays off in the end.”
