Matthew Talarczyk

His permanent position is Deputy Chief of Staff, Ambulatory Services at VA ECHCS.

Dr. Matthew R. Talarczyk brings a wealth of experience and expertise as a physician leader as well as a distinguished military career. Dr. Talarczyk has also served as Acting Chief of Surgery and Deputy Chief of Surgery at VA ECHCS. A board-certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, he has held several key leadership roles within VA and military healthcare, overseeing surgical operations, optimizing patient care strategies, and leading high-impact medical initiatives. His experience in clinical leadership, operational efficiency, and academic engagement helps guide VA ECHCS in delivering the highest quality care to our veterans.

Dr. Talarczyk's educational background includes a Doctoral of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also obtained a Master of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering. He completed his residency in an Integrated General Surgery Residency at Wright State University/Wright-Patterson AFB, then went on to pursue fellowships in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Oregon Health Science University and Reconstructive Microsurgery at The Ohio State University.

Dr. Talarczyk is a retired Air Force Colonel and board-certified plastic surgeon. He was a staff surgeon at San Antonio’s Wilford Hall Medical Center while also serving as chairman of the craniofacial anomalies team. After serving a tour as a trauma surgeon in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Dr. Talarczyk relocated back to the Dayton area to lead Wright-Patterson Medical Center’s plastic surgery program. During this time, he assumed multiple roles including Flight Commander, Chief of Surgery, Master Clinician and eventually Surgical Squadron Commander. Dr. Talarczyk also served at the National level as the Plastic Surgery Consultant to the US Air Force Surgeon General. He was also fortunate to lead several Latin American pediatric plastic surgery humanitarian missions as well as manning assists to Europe.

Dr. Talarczyk and his wife, Sharon, are now officially “empty nesters” and excited to navigate all the beauty Colorado has to offer.
