Oklahoma Holds 7th Annual Empowered Care Workshop on

Saturday, May 3rd, 2025

The ALS Association will hold their 7th Annual Empowered Care Workshop (formerly known as ALS Bootcamp) at Harvard Avenue Christian Church on May 3rd, 2025. The Workshop will begin at 10:30 a.m. and conclude at 2:00 p.m. People living with ALS, family members, friends, children, and friends will participate in hands-on training and an educational program specifically designed to increase awareness of the needs of those with ALS, as well as be provided the tools necessary to boost the confidence and skills of caregivers and family members.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that results in the death of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing the muscles in the body to gradually weaken. This leads to the loss of limb function, difficulty breathing, paralysis, and eventually death. There is currently no known cause or cure for the disease.

The workshop will include detailed information about what the caregiver role entails as well as care planning, management and hands-on training provided by experts in the field. ALL individuals living with ALS, family members, children and friends are invited and welcome.

In addition to a program for adults, the workshop will hold a special program for children and grandchildren impacted by ALS. This program will help children to better understand ALS, grieving and coping skills, and interactive opportunities with medical equipment provided to people living with ALS.

Besides the educational component, the Empowered Care Workshop provides an opportunity for the ALS community to gather, learn from and support each other, and has been hugely successful.

We are thrilled to be able to continue to once again provide this amazing event for our ALS patients, families, and community.”

Participants can register by contacting JoCarolyn Chambers at jc.chambers@als.org.
