Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care Center Highlights Strong Presence at 2025 Tulsa State Fair The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care Center (EOVAHCS) proudly made its mark at the 2025 Tulsa State Fair held in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
EOVAHCS and the Vet Center provided a comprehensive range of services and departmental information, including enrollment and eligibility details, flu shots, women's health services, suicide prevention, behavioral management, telehealth assistance, and access to nurses for onsite care. These services were specifically designed to facilitate easier access to crucial health care and support for veterans, eliminating common barriers.
The event was a tremendous success, providing an excellent opportunity for EOVAHCS staff to engage directly with veterans and the local community. Attendees also had the unique chance to explore the impressive Blue Vet Center bus. "We had a great time visiting with veterans and the community," said Gina Goodson, Deputy of Public Affairs at EOVAHCS. "We look forward to every opportunity to engage with the communities we serve. Our goal was to be present for them and make the process of enrollment or obtaining a flu shot as straightforward and convenient as possible." Many veterans enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves to receive their annual flu shots from the on-site nurses.
"We met veterans from all across the United States who stopped by to share their heroic stories, discuss their branch of service, and talk about their local health care centers," added Goodson.
The Importance of Flu Shots for Veterans
As flu season approaches, it is crucial for veterans to receive their annual flu shot. Veterans often have unique health needs and may face a higher risk of severe complications from the flu due to chronic conditions or age. The flu shot offers essential protection, reducing the risk of illness, hospitalization, and transmission to others. Additionally, many VA health care centers offer free flu vaccinations, making it accessible and convenient for veterans to maintain their health. Getting vaccinated is a simple yet vital measure to ensure the well-being of veterans and their communities.
Enrolling Veterans into VHA
Enrolling veterans into the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is essential for ensuring they receive the comprehensive health care and support they deserve. The enrollment process grants veterans access to a wide range of medical services, including preventive care, mental health support, specialized treatments, and emergency care. Many veterans and service members are unaware of their eligibility for VHA care, which is why it is so important for us to be actively present in the community, engaging with veterans and advocating for them. By speaking directly with veterans and addressing their concerns, we can clarify eligibility requirements, help them navigate the enrollment process, and ensure they receive the care they need. Additionally, this outreach helps to address any prior negative experiences and guide veterans to the appropriate resources and individuals.
The collaborative effort at the Tulsa State Fair underscored EOVAHCS’s unwavering commitment to the veteran community. By delivering health care services directly to veterans in a familiar and accessible setting, EOVAHCS continues to exemplify its dedication to serving those who have served our country.
