Scotte R. Hartronft, MD, MBA, FACP, FACHE, was appointed Chief of Staff for the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks on June 1, 2026.
Dr. Hartronft previously served as Executive Director (Senior Executive Service, Equivalent Value) for the VA Office of Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) from 2019 to 2025. In this role, he oversaw programs supporting Veterans of all ages, including VA-provided and purchased home care, hospice and palliative care, outpatient care, and facility-based care. He led national VA initiatives such as establishing the VA as the largest integrated Age-Friendly Health Care System in the U.S., expanding national home care programs, and implementing multiple improvement pilot programs to help Veterans age in place.
Dr. Hartronft is a United States Army Veteran. After completing medical school, he served on active duty as a commissioned officer, completing his internship, residency, and fellowship training. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. He has received multiple national, regional, and local awards, including the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Award from the Regent for Veterans Affairs in 2025.
Dr. Hartronft’s prior VA leadership roles include Chief of Staff at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System, Deputy Chief of Staff at VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and Associate Chief of Staff at the South Texas Health Care System in San Antonio.
He has held academic appointments as Associate Dean and Clinical Professor at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical School, Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio Medical School, and Associate Professor at the University of Washington Medical School. He is also the author or coauthor of numerous peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Hartronft earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, an MBA from the University of Washington Foster School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
