Hope in the Courtroom: How VHSO Veterans Treatment Court Transforms Lives.

Once people finds themselves in a courtroom with a judge, they typically never want to return. That was not the case for Army Veteran Jimmy Wigington.
For Jimmy, the courtroom became a place of hope, not judgment. It became a place where he received a second chance and was inspired to help others find theirs.
Jimmy graduated from the Washington County Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) in December 2025. VTC offers specialized court programs that provide justice-involved Veterans with opportunities for rehabilitation, treatment, and recovery instead of traditional sentencing. This compassionate approach is made possible through the strong partnership between the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks (VHSO), the judiciary and county probation offices. Through their collaboration, they consistently monitor each Veteran’s progress to support adherence to individualized treatment plans.
Grateful for the life-changing help he received, Jimmy wanted to give back. In March 2026, he became a VTC Mentor, helping guide fellow Veterans toward the same hope and healing. “I’ve walked a mile in their shoes. I can have real conversations with real experience with Veterans,” Jimmy said. “Someone was there for me, and it’s my turn to be there for someone else.”
Thanks to VHSO and programs like VTC, Veterans like Jimmy aren’t just overcoming their own struggles; they can help others as well. As VHSO Veterans Justice Outreach Specialist Jeff Glover explained, “This program has proven to be successful for so many. Seeing graduates from the program give back by helping others really makes it come full circle.”
VHSO is here for Veterans, with the true reward not only in seeing them succeed, but also in witnessing them give back to fellow Veterans. Through dedication, support, and a commitment to service, Jimmy and VHSO are making a real difference in the lives of those who have served.
