On November 6th, the Joplin VA Clinic was filled with the unmistakable aroma of grilled burgers and the spirit of gratitude. For the second year in a row, Pinnacle Bank of Joplin hosted a special lunch to honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s Veterans.

Representatives Liz Cantu, Kasey Cowger and Eric Hill proudly donned aprons and fired up the grill, serving up delicious food and heartfelt appreciation. “Looking Veterans in the eye, shaking their hands and personally thanking them is the most rewarding experience,” said Cantu. “It’s a privilege to show them the respect they deserve.”

The event created a warm atmosphere of connection and reflection. Veterans and staff shared stories, laughter and a sense of camaraderie that embodies the true meaning of Veterans Day.

Army Veteran Christian Weding, who served 23 years, was touched by the gesture. “This is awesome,” he said. “It’s not a hollow thank you or a politically correct response —it’s a great thing they’re doing.” Fellow Army Veteran Lawrence Tappana echoed the sentiment, adding, “It’s great to know that we’re not forgotten and truly appreciated. This is awesome.”

VHSO staff were also invited to join the lunch, sharing in the gratitude and fellowship that filled the day.

For Pinnacle Bank, this annual tradition is more than a community outreach — it’s a personal mission to honor those who have worn the uniform. As the team looks ahead, they hope to continue this meaningful event for years to come, strengthening the bond between the community and the Veterans who have given so much.
