Fayetteville opens new Virtual Health Resource Center

The Fayetteville Coastal Health Care System opened its first Virtual Health Resource Center (VHRC) on September 17.

Veterans can now have hands-on support, training, help troubleshooting, and other information regarding virtual care tools, such as VA Video Connect, My HealtheVet, health apps, and devices. VHRCs are open for phone, video, and in-person consultations with their health technology experts.

In addition to being a resource of for Veterans, VA staff can turn to the VHRCs for support with incorporating virtual care tools into their daily workflow or clinical practice. The VHRC experts hold regular trainings for staff to stay up to date on virtual care tools and technologies.

According to Carlton Marlowe, the VHRC manager, it took nine months to get the center ready for the opening. He shared that the added benefit of the VHRC in helping to decrease the digital divide. “We can now keep Veterans up to date with modern technology by teaching them and giving hands-on instruction while they're here."

Veterans can speak with an expert to determine which virtual care options might be right for their health and lifestyle needs. "Our Veterans have asked for this and today we have been able to open our center, "said Nicki Fryar, Executive Director. “The next steps after growing and developing the VHRC, will be leveraging community partnerships to duplicate this effort in training and educating our Veterans, she added."
