Hampton , VA — Hampton VA Healthcare System Achieves 4-Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
Hampton, VA – September 12, 2024 – The Hampton VA Health Care System proudly announces its achievement of a prestigious 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a recognition that underscores the system's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care to our nation’s Veterans.
“The CMS 4-star rating truly reflects the dedication and care our team invests in serving Veterans every day," said Mr. Walt Dannenberg, Acting Executive Director of Hampton VA Health Care System. " As with any healthcare organization, we recognize that we have both strengths to build upon and challenges to overcome. Our commitment remains steadfast: to provide care that meets the highest standards, genuinely enhances the lives of those who have served our country, and to continually improve in every area to ensure our Veterans receive the best care possible.”
The CMS star ratings are a critical benchmark for hospital performance, evaluating a range of measures including mortality and readmission rates, emergency department treatment, and overall value of care.
A 4-star rating is awarded to hospitals that exceed national averages on key metrics, reflecting Hampton VA Health Care System’s consistently high performance throughout the year. Within a 25-mile radius of the central Hampton Roads area, only six healthcare organizations achieved an overall rating of 4 stars or higher, with four excelling in the patient survey category—Hampton VA Health Care System being one of them.
How Do the Star Ratings Work?
The Star Rating summarizes a healthcare facility’s performance across several key areas of patient care:
• 4- or 5-Star Rating: Indicates above-average performance, reflecting a high standard of care.
• 3-Star Rating: Denotes good quality care, consistent with most hospitals nationwide.
• or 2-Star Rating: Suggests performance below average, though not necessarily indicative of poor care.
As one of the fastest-growing VA health care systems in the nation, Hampton VA Health Care System’s 4-star rating is a significant accomplishment that highlights the exceptional effort required to achieve such a high standard. This accolade not only celebrates the system’s current success but also underscores its unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and delivering outstanding, patient-centered care.
