Dr. Han has been appointed as the Chief of Staff at the Hampton VA Health Care System, effective March 23, 2025.
Dr. Han began his service in the VA Health Care System as the Assistant Chief of Medicine at the Tucson VA Hospital in 2018, where he led efforts to improve key quality metrics, inpatient flow, medical provider performance, and the quality of inpatient teaching services. In January 2023, he advanced to Chief of Medicine Service at the Phoenix VA Health Care System, where he oversaw the planning, development, coordination, direction, and evaluation of its medical services.
Prior to the VA Health Care System, Dr. Han spent over 20 years in academic medicine. He most recently served as the Executive Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, where he developed and executed strategies to deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring financial stability in a dynamic healthcare environment. Dr. Han also served as an attending nephrologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at both Thomas Jefferson Medical College and Temple University School of Medicine, in addition to working as an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Han earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, followed by a clinical and research nephrology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology.
As a nephrologist, Dr. Han specialized in acute kidney injury, lupus nephritis and ANCA-associated vasculitis. His research focused on identifying biomarkers in human urine samples to achieve early detection of acute kidney injury and renal cell carcinoma. He has also served as a peer reviewer for several prestigious medical journals, including Kidney International and Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
