Hampton Earns Perfect Recertification Survey for Community Living Center, Hospice, and Spinal Cord Injury Units
Hampton VA Healthcare System has reached a significant achievement in delivering quality care. In last week’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Recertification Survey, which evaluated the Community Living Center (CLC), Hospice, and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) units, the healthcare system achieved a flawless outcome with no findings.
The survey was carried out by Ascellon Corporation, an independent regulatory contractor, as part of the VA’s dedication to adhering to the most stringent federal healthcare standards in the nation. The review was comprehensive in scope, thoroughly evaluating all aspects of clinical practice and life safety at Hampton, including medication administration, infection control, wound care, dining services, fall prevention, dialysis, gradual dose reduction of psychiatric medications, and behavioral monitoring.
“These specialized VA programs are foundational to our mission, delivering comprehensive, Veteran-focused long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and specialty services across the Hampton region,” said Michael Harper, Interim Executive Director of the Hampton VA Healthcare System. “I am extremely proud of my team and their steadfast dedication to excellence. Thanks to their hard work and the support of our leadership, we have achieved this unprecedented outcome. Achieving a result of no findings is exceptionally rare and highlights our relentless commitment to patient safety, regulatory excellence, and continuous quality improvement.”
About the Units Surveyed:
- Community Living Center (CLC): A VA program providing both short-term and long-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation for Veterans, with an emphasis on supporting independence and quality of life.
- Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Units: Facilities dedicated to specialized care for Veterans with spinal cord injuries and related disorders, sustaining rehabilitation, which aims to enhance and restore functional abilities, prevent secondary complications and maximize the quality of life of veterans with SCI/D
- Hospice Care: Compassionate, end-of-life care ensuring dignity, comfort, and support for Veterans and their families during life’s final stages.
Maintaining the highest standards in these critical areas ensures the safety, health, and well-being of the Veterans entrusted to Hampton’s care. This remarkable accomplishment underscores the Hampton VA Healthcare System’s leadership in the field and serves as a new benchmark for Veteran healthcare facilities nationwide.
