CHESAPEAKE, VA - Six months after opening its doors, North Battlefield VA Clinic has reached a significant juncture in its mission, to provide high-quality care to Veterans in the Chesapeake community.

The Clinic’s steady growth reflects months of planning, teamwork, and dedication carried out through a carefully phased approach.

Since opening, the clinic has delivered measurable impact. Approximately 60,000 appointments have been completed, supported by a committed staff of 347 professionals and counting. Daily appointment capacity grows as teams refine workflows and integrate new technology to better serve Veterans.

The Hampton VA Health Care System Associate Director for Operations, Michael W. Harper, praised the staff’s hard work and the community’s support throughout the clinic’s early months.

"We are thrilled by the opening of the new North Battlefield Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, a state-of-the-art, 200,000-square-foot facility designed to serve our Veterans with the utmost care and convenience.”

With comprehensive radiology services, a full pharmacy, prosthetic offerings, primary care, mental health services, and physical medicine and rehabilitation, this clinic is a monumental step forward in providing accessible healthcare,” he said.

Looking ahead, the North Battlefield VA Clinic prepares to complete its third and final phase, continuing the momentum by welcoming new staff and introducing additional services. For the first time, Veterans will be able to receive dental and radiology care close to home, with both services located on the south side.

“By phasing activation, fostering team collaboration, and streamlining processes, despite challenges, we reached full staffing for phases one and two ahead of schedule, enhancing operational readiness and preparing for ongoing success,” said Rodney Mills, Interim Health Care Center administrator for the Hampton Health Care System Clinics.

“This accomplishment reflects our team's dedication, innovative problem-solving, and commitment to delivering quality healthcare services,” said Mills. “We remain focused on maintaining momentum as we continue to open services in phase three, ensuring sustainable growth and excellence in patient care.”

Now past its first six months, the clinic continues to operate as a coordinated effort, focused on delivering high-quality care and maintaining Veterans as the priority in all services.

Veterans will no longer need to navigate bridges and tunnels to reach the main hospital on the peninsula, as these essential services are now available right here at North Battlefield," said Harper.
