PGY1 Pharmacy Resident

VA Houston health care

Samara Chienye, PharmD, is a PGY1 Pharmacy Resident at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

  • Hometown: Houston, Texas
  • Education: Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (Tallahassee, FL)
  • Research: Outcomes associated with single antiplatelet therapy combined with an anticoagulant in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with pre-existing or new-onset atrial fibrillation
  • Why VA Houston: My father is an Army Airborne Veteran who used to come to the VA Houston for healthcare. I had the opportunity to complete one of my APPE Internal Medicine rotation at a VA Hospital located in Lake City, Florida. I knew then that I wanted to pursue post-graduate training within the VA system specifically in Houston. I was drawn to the welcoming and positive learning environment created by the healthcare team.

The PGY1 residency at VA Houston offers a variety of both inpatient and outpatient rotations which will promote my professional development, enhance my clinical skills, while continuing to expand my role as a pharmacist. Additionally, I am extremely grateful to serve those who have served our country.
