Story - San Juan

San Juan Celebrates I CARE

VA Caribbean Healthcare System in San Juan has spent decades showing compassion for the Veterans it serves. So it was no surprise when they jumped on the chance to use I CARE to inspire and recognize employees for their excellent service. Using its most valuable resources—its people — VACHS has woven VA's values into their everyday work and care for Veterans.

To help launch I CARE, the system Director appointed a Committee to celebrate the program throughout its facilities. Using videos, training, posters, Town Hall meetings, and their website, they shared what VA core values mean to employees and Veterans.

"Talking about I CARE in San Juan felt natural. These values are already so much a part of how we think and behave. You can see it in the way we work with our patients. I CARE has helped us better show our care for the community by recognizing excellence and service," says Wanda Mims, Director, VAHCS.

And this is just the beginning. The system has a long-term plan for how they want to showcase I CARE. They've already started feeling this difference I CARE is making – Want to feature your local I CARE story? Share it today!
