On April 12, 2020, Dr. Mark Kadowaki was appointed as the Chief of Staff at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI.
He received his MD from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago and completed his General Surgery Residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. After residency, Dr. Kadowaki served as a General Surgeon at Naval Hospital Great Lakes where he was the Director of the Critical Care Unit.
He moved on to private practice where he held several positions of leadership at the hospitals he was on staff at, including Chief of the Surgery Department and as a member of the Board of Directors of his Medical Group.
In 2015 he began his VA career at the Charles George VAMC in Asheville, NC where he held multiple positions including Chief of General Surgery, Chair of the Medical Records Committee, Co-Chair of the Utilization Management Committee and was the Cancer Liaison Physician to the Cancer Committee.
He was also the Local Site Investigator for the research project CSP 599: Transfusion Trigger after Operations in High Cardiac Risk Patients (TOP). He completed his MBA with specialization in Healthcare Administration from King University.
