Dr. Sheri Ewing retires after 17 years of dedicated federal service

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center proudly announces the retirement of Dr. Sheri L. Ewing, D.O., from the Ironwood clinic on March 31, 2026, after a commendable 17 years of federal service.
Dr. Ewing’s roots run deep in Ironwood, MI, where she was born and raised. A 1984 graduate of Ironwood Catholic High School, she furthered her education at Gogebic Community College, earning an Associate of Science degree in 1986. She then attended Michigan State University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in Nutritional Science in 1988 and went on to achieve her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. Following the completion of her family practice residency in 1995, she practiced in a multispecialty clinic in Riverview, MI.
Dr. Ewing began her VA career on February 1, 2009, with the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center. Throughout her tenure, she served as the solo primary care physician at the Oscar G. Johnson Ironwood VA Clinic. In addition, she made significant contributions as the Women's Health Medical Director for Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center and its clinics, participating in both the regional (VISN) and national Women’s Health Program from July 2023 to April 2025.
Reflecting on her career, Dr. Ewing expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to her hometown and contribute to the healthcare community. She stated, "It has been an honor to care for area Veterans and to support the healthcare needs of my community."
Dr. Ewing often shared her favorite quote as a source of inspiration: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
Recruitment efforts are in process to fill the provider position at the Ironwood VA clinic. The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center is committed to providing excellent, continued care to Veterans during this time.
