Iron Mountain VAMC hosts Drug Take Back Day

Drug take back day October 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Iron Mountain VA

The Department of Veterans Affairs is launching a nationwide effort to assist Veterans and non-Veterans with the disposal of unused or expired prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs, including controlled substance prescription medications, on designated VA Medication Take Back Days.

The effort is part of the Presidents’ Dispose of Unused Medications and Prescription (DUMP) Opioids Act, signed into law in 2021.

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center will host a Drug Take Back event Friday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Iron Mountain campus.  Anyone can safely dispose of unwanted medications, no liquids or syringes, in designated safe return receptacles during this time.

“We welcome both Veterans and non-Veterans to participate in this bi-annual event,” stated Patrick Palmquist, OGJVAMC Chief of Police Services.  “Just look for our red coat volunteers, those wearing recognizable red vests, and they will direct you to the disposal container.”

Questions regarding the event can be directed to medical center by calling (906) 774-3300 and asking to speak with police services.
