Honoring and Supporting Women Veterans Through Comprehensive Health Care

Women's Health Services Team

By Courtney Ammons, Public Affairs Specialist

Women’s Health Services are designed with one clear mission: to provide personalized, comprehensive care that meets the unique needs of every woman who has served.

As the number of women Veterans continues to grow, so too does the VA’s commitment to expanding and enhancing care options specifically for them. The Women’s Health program offers a wide range of services, including primary care, maternity support, gynecology, mental health treatment, mammography and cervical screenings, and lifestyle wellness programs. These services are delivered through a team-based, whole health approach—ensuring each Veteran receives individualized attention and care.

“We want every woman Veteran to feel seen, heard, and cared for,” said Eddis Baker, RN, Women’s Health Care Coordinator. “Whether it’s through a routine screening, a telehealth appointment, or support for mental health and wellness, we’re here to provide care that respects each Veteran’s experiences and priorities.” Specially trained Women’s Health primary care providers and staff help ensure that Veterans receive sensitive and informed care in a welcoming environment. Services have continued to evolve, with expanded telehealth options, the use of My HealtheVet for easy communication and appointment access, and focused efforts to enhance safety and comfort in all areas of care.

Women Veterans can also access specialty care, including support for military sexual trauma, reproductive health care, and mental health services. Preventive care like mammograms and cervical screenings are offered in all primary care clinics, with on-site gynecology available for added convenience. With resources like the Women Veterans Call Center and support through the PACT Act, the VA is working to ensure that women Veterans have the tools they need to prioritize their health and well-being. As Mudeshea Monroe, RN, Women’s Health Care Coordinator, shared, “We are proud to serve the women who have served our country. Our goal is to provide care that empowers them to live healthier, fuller lives.”
