Managing Your Health

Peace of mind about health issues is invaluable. VA employees deserve no less than our best. We'll offer you comprehensive, affordable, and flexible Health insurance.

Under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, employees choose from Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and Fee-for-Service health plans.

Unlike the plans offered by private employers, you'll eligible for this coverage without physical examination. There is no restriction on age or pre-existing conditions.

VA pays approximately 75 percent of your biweekly health benefit premium. Not only that, but VA offers premium conversion, allowing you to pay for your health insurance premium with pre-tax dollars.

You may be eligible to carry your health insurance into retirement.

Sometimes we all need a little help - if not for ourselves, for a loved one.

The Employee Assistance Program offers assessment, referral, and short-term counseling to employees and immediate family members.

Counseling is available on a voluntary basis to help you and your family deal with alcohol and drug abuse, smoking cessation, financial planning, debt referral, stress management, weight reduction, and other health, personal or work related issues.

The Employee Assistance Program also provides flu vaccines, mammography, blood pressure testing, and other wellness assessments.

In addition, VA offers health and fitness facilities.

VA believes in wellness and prevention. We'll help you stay well with a series of health care screenings.

You can choose to be screened for conditions such as glaucoma, high cholesterol, diabetes, and depression.

Early detection of these conditions will help guide you towards preventive steps or lifestyle changes that will minimize your risk of long term health problems.
